When Cecilia approached me to write for The Marketing Boutique, I was very excited because the field of Positive Psychology, also known as the science of happiness, has exploded in the last fifteen years.
In 2006, I was one of the first in the world to earn a Master’s of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania, where Marty Seligman, the “father of Positive Psychology,” exposed us to many of the researchers and thinkers who are breaking ground in studying happiness and its components. He challenged us to apply that research to our professions so that we could “increase the tonnage of happiness in the world.”
My capstone project in the MAPP program became the bestselling book, “Creating Your Best Life,” the first evidence-based book to link the science of happiness with the science of goal accomplishment. Today, I coach and teach men and women around the world on how to set and achieve meaningful goals, while also creating flourishing and purposeful lives, both personally and professionally.
Seligma’s call for researchers to study what is “right” with people instead of what is “wrong,” has led us to understand the ingredients of people, relationships and institutions “at their best” and we can learn to replicate and amplify them so that we can all benefit and take charge of our own happiness.
I’ve isolated three of the most important findings I’ve learned in the course of my study and work that everyone – including you – should know because these will not only improve the quality of your life, but will make it easier for you to actually accomplish your goals. For the next three weeks I will highlight them and propose some steps to make them happen.
